Sustainability
Like other forms of integrative medicine, homeopathy strives for sustainable medicine. The focus is on the body's self-healing capacity, and homeopathy activates self-healing with minimal stimulation. It could hardly be more sustainable.
-
Because homeopathic medicines stimulate self-healing, they are also repeated less often. If there are signs that the body is responding to the therapy, it is possible to wait and see. This means that minimal amounts of medicine are required. The ultimate goal is to restore health, so that no more medicines are needed. This means that long-term maintenance doses are usually not necessary. During treatment for chronic complaints, however, different medicines may be used simultaneously or one after the other.
Homeopathic medicines:
-
No intensive chemical industry is required to prepare homeopathic medicines. The raw materials used in their preparation are mostly of natural origin, with bioalcohol and bio sugar being the most commonly used carrier materials. In most cases, the raw materials can be obtained without harming the environment or nature. Much of the plant material is grown sustainably and organically and checked for use in accordance with the guidelines of the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia. Animal material is obtained in small quantities, usually without harming the animal. Minerals and chemical compounds are required in minimal quantities. Residues are destroyed in a responsible manner.
-
Homeopathic medicines are mostly of natural origin. This does not mean that they cannot be toxic in their original form. However, when preparing a homeopathic medicine, the final medicine is prepared from a very small amount of raw material by means of dilution and shaking (or rubbing). As a result of this preparation, medicines generally no longer contain any toxic components from a D6 or C3 potency onwards. Most homeopathic potencies on the market therefore do not need to be disposed of as chemical waste.
Potentiation (dilution and shaking) is a low-pollution production method. Residual materials from the preparation process, such as water, sugar, alcohol and glassware, are hardly polluting waste materials. Both the production method and the residual materials have little impact on the environment, certainly in comparison with the production of most regular medicines.
The delivery quantity of a homeopathic medicine is usually small: as a carrier material, it often consists of only a few millilitres of alcohol or a few sugar pellets.
